Cypress Delivers First Revenue Shipments of Flagship USB 2.0 Microcontroller to CATC
EZ-USB FX2(TM) Designed Into CATC's Advanced Verification Systems and Connectivity Solutions
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2002--
Cypress Semiconductor (NYSE:CY - news) today announced that the first
revenue shipments and production volumes of the EZ-USB FX2(TM) USB 2.0
microcontroller have been delivered to Computer Access Technology
Corp. (CATC, Nasdaq: CATZ) for use in their Universal Port Tester 2.0
(UPT2(TM)) advanced verification system and EL200(TM) industrial USB
2.0-to-Ethernet Link.
"The CATC systems that the FX2 has been designed into are vital to
the proper development and manufacture of end-user, USB compliant
systems and products," said Jeff Chang, product marketing manager of
Cypress Semiconductor's Personal Communications Division. "Partnering
with CATC in the development of these systems is aligned with our
joint strategy to rapidly enable the USB 2.0 market, while ensuring
high quality products and robust operation."
"Cypress supports CATC's drive to provide industrial-strength
verification systems and connectivity solutions to semiconductor,
device, systems and software developers working with USB as a
communications technology," said Jean-Louis Gassee, CEO of CATC. "Our
UPT2 is instrumental in ensuring that our customers' USB 2.0-enabled
systems meet the specification, and our EL200 USB 2.0-to-Ethernet Link
provides a much-needed connection to test integrated network hardware
in personal computer systems during manufacturing, production testing
or software downloads."
"Cypress and CATC have long been key contributors to the success
of the USB technology," said Jason Ziller, Intel technology
initiatives manager and USB Implementers Forum chairman. "The USB-IF
has coined 2002 `The Year of USB 2.0.' Announcements such as this one
from Cypress and CATC should help to continue to accelerate new
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 products to market this year."

About EZ-USB FX2
The EZ-USB FX2 USB 2.0 microcontroller is an extremely flexible,
yet cost-effective single-chip solution whose high integration
provides superior time-to-market advantages. The device integrates an
8051 processor, a `Smart' serial interface engine (SIE), a USB 2.0
transceiver, on-chip RAM and FIFOs, and a general programmable
interface. The `Smart' SIE in FX2 handles all basic USB functions,
freeing the embedded MCU for application-specific functions and
ensuring sustained high-performance transfer rates. The FX2's general
programmable interface (GPIF) allows it to `gluelessly' connect to any
ASIC or DSP, as well as supporting all common bus standards, including
ATA, UTOPIA, EPP and PCMCIA. The EZ-USB FX2 is fully USB 2.0 compliant
and backward compatible with USB 1.1. It is also available in a 56-pin
SSOP, 100- and 128-pin TQFP package.
About CATC's Products
The UPT2, CATC's third-generation USB port-verification system, is
an industrial-grade product used to test USB ports of PC motherboards
and systems for proper functionality. The UPT2 fully complies with
both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 specifications and automatically tests
High-Speed, Full-Speed and Low-Speed operations for each port. The
EL200 is the industry's first Industrial link between USB 2.0 and
Ethernet channels. It is used on production lines by computer
manufacturers and assembly houses to load test and data files on
newly-manufactured systems. The EL200 is the only device on the market
that connects a computer running under DOS to an Ethernet network
through a USB 2.0 port.
Availability and Pricing
Production volumes of the EZ-USB FX2 are available now; prices
start at $7.99 in volumes of 10,000 units for the 56-pin version.
